Giving Grace

Vol. 1: A Collection of stories from mamas to mamas

Motherhood doesn’t come with a manual to guide us or a toolkit to “fix” the problems and challenges that often arise along the way. Though there’s no yellow-brick road to follow, mamas show up, ultimately giving their best and sometimes their all.

In this thoughtful and encouraging co-author book series, thirteen women authentically share pieces of their motherhood journey—filled with moments of transparency, reflection and gratitude.

In every chapter, a mama imparts lessons of love, faith, and courage. You will laugh, you will cry and you may even see yourself in their testimonials.

Collectively, this book will heal your mama spirit and allow your open arms to embrace grace.

Excerpt from the chapter Grateful for Heartache

“I learned quickly, probably around sixteen, how to evolve away from yearning for this kind of relationship, even though I knew I was naturally entitled to it. By my early 20’s, I turned my back on love and stopped striving for the comforting things I once wanted, like commitment and togetherness. I remember telling my mom, “I don’t need anyone. I will be a boss in my career and raise a big family on my own. I’ll cover all the bases on my own.” The look of horror that came across her face surprised me. I thought I was making her proud, but her expression said otherwise. She said, “Oh Tee. I wasn’t a single parent because I wanted to be. I didn’t want to make all the money and raise you alone. None of us women really pick this life, but we do what we have to do. I want more for you.” And that was as far as we got with that conversation. I acknowledge that it was total BS (though I really believed what I said then). In my adult life I have spent much time getting the hell outta dodge and minimizing my chances of getting hit in the heart with a stray bullet of disappointment, pain and heartache.”
